I just talked with a friend of mine Jen, who trained for the Boston marathon. I wanted to know what to do about this lovely crapdometer I had just purchased…well they are not intended for runners. They are not accurate. So it was not worth the money to buy one. Oh well. She also gave me great advice about our training schedule, so we are in fact changing our schedule. It is not a good idea to hold the training at a certain week, so we are following a 20 week training course instead. Silvia will post it on here
Today is my off day, so I am heading to the beach. Happy running Silvia!
Pedometers aren’t for runners-Kirsten July 15, 2008
Crapdometer-Kirsten July 15, 2008
I officially became a “runner” today. I bought fancy running clothes (which are worth the investment because they do not ride up!) and a pedometer. I decided it best to not use map my run, and rely on my pedometer. The reason for this is, sometimes it is nice to just go out and run and not follow an exact course. As I am running I glance down to check my miles and I misread the strides for miles (ok, I know what your thinking, but when you’re running you look fast!) and I think in my head, WOW I already went 3 miles (I saw a 3 first and since I had to look fast did not look to the right of the 3!!). Then a few minutes later, noticing how quickly that number was growing I figured out to change to the miles mode. Well boy was I in for a dissapointment; according to my lovely crapdometer I had been running for 30 minutes (true), ran 2.5 miles (not accurate according to mapmyrun.com) and burned 136 calories (I hope not true, I needed to burn off the cookie I ate today). UUUUMMMMM………..if I plan on burning any sort of cheeseburger here that is not going to cut it. I came home, mapped my run on map.com and it said I ran 3.0 miles. Is it just me, or is the pedometer not so accurate?
On a different note, don’t eat salad before you run. I literally had nothing else on my mind but not throwing up…Now despite all the “drama” this run entailed, I looked cute in my new running clothes
Tomorrow is 4 miles. No salad for me.
